Beware of the Mirage of cheap air tickets

The aviation industry historical trends show that if the airline is to grow, offering cheap air tickets to customers is the best way to move forward on growth trajectory. Once this strategic move plays off and the airline successfully taps the new market by enlarging its customer base, the airline might take to increasing the prices of the flight tickets in ways which do not increase the ticket prices directly but indirectly by increasing the prices of ancillary products and services. What are these likely add-ons of the airline which can increase the overall price of your travel?
These add-ons are the charges which could be levied on the baggage or extra luggage carried on the airlines, on the eatables served in-flight, for some preferred seating, for using the in-flight entertainment systems and so on. It depends on the policy of the airlines whether to include some or all of these services and products within the price of the flight tickets or to charge these separately. As the airlines seek to grow by offering the cheap air tickets, the policy is taking a shift towards charging these items separately from the customers. So, when you are planning to fly and before booking the flights, the policy of airline regarding these extra chargeable things shall be known. A search through the website or a call to the customer service can do the needful.
Once you know what are the add-ons which are being charged for separately, you shall consider whether these are indeed required or not during the flight. Now, make a list of all the things which are required and for which you will have to pay extra sums. Add this figure to the price of the cheap air ticket which is being offered and then you get the actual price of the flight. This exercise shall be performed for other airlines as well and, after having the total prices from each of these, you can arrive at a judgment on which airline to fly with. It might well be the case that the airline which is offering cheap air tickets is more costly overall than the one which is offering a little expensive air tickets but is having low overall costs as many of the needed items might be offered complimentary.
The pricing policy of airlines seems to be changing towards segregating the different products and services being offered to customer from the price of the air tickets. This leaves the choice of availing or not availing these add-ons to the customers, at a price. So, planning for your travel is not singularly related to the price of the air tickets but needs a deeper analysis of what is the cost of add-on products or services.
