Joseph F. Canterbury
Born in 1969, Joe grew up in Dallas and graduated high school from Jesuit College Preparatory and then attended Washington & Lee University in Virginia, where he majored in European History and Economics. While attending W&L, he spent fall semester 1989 studying in London, which afforded him the opportunity to travel Europe and spend 4 days helping pull down the Berlin Wall. This experience inspired him to later learn German and work and live in Europe. Following a couple years working in banking and the oil industry, he earned an MBA at Texas A&M University in parallel to earning a Masters Degree in International Business from Johannes Kepler Universitaet in Linz, Austria, where he also learned German. Following the year in Linz, he worked for six months in the Czech Republic, where he also was married in late 1994. From 1996 to 1999, he lived in Stuttgart, Germany working for Daimler Benz in Corporate Development , which allowed him to work on extended projects across Europe and Argentina. In 1999, he and his family moved to Singapore, where headed up M&A projects across Asia for Daimler (then DaimlerChryselr). In late 2000, he returned to the US and began working for Starbucks International as a Director of Finance and Business Development. During the following six years, his role grew into VP of International Business Development and he helped drive Starbucks International Strategy and entry into multiple markets across Asia, Europe and Latin America. In 2007 he and his family moved to Amsterdam, where he headed up New Businesses for Starbucks Europe, Middle East and Africa. This was followed by a stint running and restructuring Starbuck Germany before moving back to the US in 2009 and resuming a global business development role supporting the global expansion of Starbucks’ retail and consumer products goods businesses.
In 2012, Appconomy, Inc. announced that Joe Canterbury has joined the company to lead its global market operations, including Marketing, Sales, Business Development and Support functions. “Joe Canterbury understands what big brands need and how to serve their business objectives while delivering an outstanding experience to customers, having led international business development for one of the world’s most iconic, admired brands at Starbucks,” said Steve Papermaster, Chairman and co-CEO of Appconomy. “We’re thrilled to have Joe join our team, develop our business partner and brand network, and lead our marketing and sales efforts, initially in China and, over time, around the world.”
He and his wife have three children (ages 13, 10 and 7) and now reside in Austin, Texas. When not traveling and spending time with his family, Joe is involved with Habitat for Humanity in Austin and is an avid runner and reader. His family spent 2.5 weeks during July 2011 volunteering and vacationing in Costa Rica through Tropical Adventures and is now excited about joining the board and supporting the continued growth and mission of T.A.
Jerry Steichen
With a career that ranges from symphony to opera, Broadway to chamber music, Maestro Gerald Steichen has established himself as one of America’s most versatile young conductors. He currently holds the position of Music Director of the Ridgefield Symphony (Connecticut) and the Principal Pops Conductor of the Utah Symphony. He is also the Associate Conductor of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, conducting their Classics concerts, the Pops series, Young People’s Concerts, and summer Parks Concert series.
Steichen’s conducting skills and love for opera eventually led him to a staff position with the New York City Opera. He made his Lincoln Center debut at the State Theatre, conducting performances of La bohème. Pursuing his passion for education, Steichen has also spent eighteen years with the “Meet the Artist” series at Lincoln Center as conductor, clinician and pianist. In 2007, he led the New York City Opera Orchestra and soloists in a live WQXR broadcast of Wall to Wall Opera from New York’s Symphony Space. He has also conducted the Utah Symphony & Opera, Anchorage Opera, New Jersey Opera Theater, Glimmerglass Opera in Cooperstown, NY, and Opera East Texas.
Originally from Tonkawa, Oklahoma, Maestro Steichen holds degrees from Northern Oklahoma College, Oklahoma City University and the University of Southern California. He currently resides in New York City.
