One of the most fun and enriching ways to experience the unique culture of Costa Rica is by working side-by-side with the local people, immersing yourself in their daily routines, sharing perspectives and contributing your time and talents toward their community development. Through our variety of volunteer projects, Tropical Adventures offers a menu of opportunities for you to participate in this special experience.
While none of our projects require special skill or previous experience, all have orientations and/or training courses to help familiarize you with your volunteer work. If you do have any special skills that you would like to contribute, our staff can work with you to find a project placement that best suits your interests.

Going on this program allowed me to see Costa Rica as a local...and I fell in love with the life there. At the end, I didn't want to come back.

Our projects are located in or around the Puerto Viejo area on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast, in the Central Valley and in the Pacific Northwest (Guanacaste) area. Your accommodations will be arranged within walking distance or a short bike or bus ride away from the project to which you are placed, if not at the project itself.

Spanish language lessons are available for an add-on price at our projects located in or near Puerto Viejo and Bambu. These classes are customized for each student's ability level and interests, are fun and designed to facilitate the most intensive direct learning of the Spanish language and culture. They are also a great in helping facilitate your communication while serving with your project. These lessons will be scheduled around your volunteer work.
