Packing List

For all projects

General :

  • Sunblock
  • Sunglasses
  • Insect repellent with deet
  • Shampoo, soap, and laudry soap (biodegradable)
  • Antibacterial hand gel
  • Mosquito net (optional, but nice to have)
  • Snack bars (if working at a remote location)
  • Flashlight
  • Backpack
  • Camera (don’t forget extra batteries and memory cards)
  • Passport (and copy of your passport information page)
  • Money and ATM card
  • Personal first aid kit

Clothes :

  • Laundry bag
  • A few plastic bags to keep soiled/wet clothing in
  • Towell and beach towel
  • Hat
  • Light clothes….it can be hot and humid (lightweight cargo pants, long-sleeve and t-shirts)
  • Sturdy, open air shoes (such as Keens or Tevas)
  • Raincoat
  • Bathing suit
  • Umbrella

Extras :

  • English / Spanish Dictionary
  • Gift(s) for your host family (if applicable), such as photos of your family, post cards and a map from your community, a “treat” local to your area such as maple syrup if you’re from Vermont or something fun to share
  • Any required medications (in their original container)
  • Table games, deck of cards, and reading material to keep occupied during down times
  • Consider filling up any extra space with donations. See our Wish List for more details

If volunteering at a school, you’ll be required to wear something with sleeves and pants. Women can also wear skirts or dresses. You might also want to bring stickers, temporary tattoos, or other small gift to hand out as prizes in class.

If going to one of our sea turtle projects, please also bring the following:

  • Some kind of closed-toe tennis shoes or footwear you don't mind getting dirty & wet
  • Head lamp and / or flashlight with red light or red filter
  • High top hiking boots or tall rubber boots (For the Romelia Sea Turtle Project only)
  • Sheets and pillow for your own bed (For the Romelia Sea Turtle Project only)
  • Dark colored clothes, preferably long sleeved shirts and long, lightweight pants
