At 8 AM, on a sunny Tuesday morning we started our trip to the Cahuita National Park and to the “secret” waterfall that was somewhere in the jungle. We had a small group, consisting of 5 people including our great tour guide Luis and our driver Milady. First we went to the amazing national park. The path goes along the beach, which is super nice, because you feel the ocean breeze and the salty water in the air all the time. Along the path we crossed back toward the beach from time to time. Our guide Luis was able to spot many different animals and other interesting things like flowers and trees, from which he had lots of stories and information to tell.
Along the way we saw monkeys, spiders, sloths , crabs, lizards, and all the things you can expect to see in a jungle – including a yellow eyelash vipe snake! It was not scary, it was very exciting. For a guy like me who is from Scandinavia, these kind of animals are not present daily life . This is one of the reasons why the place was so exciting.
After walking about two and half hours in a national park, we decided to head back to the car, and go to the secret waterfall. Although before we started the engine, Luis was very kind and bought coconuts for all of us. And I have to mention that it tasted extremely refreshing after the hike. On our way to the jungle, we stopped for few minutes to this high point on the mountains to admire the Caribbean Sea. That view was something!
Ten minutes after that we reached our last stop. We were hiking ten minutes , literally in the jungle , to get on the waterfall. That place was untouched, there were no tourists , just us. Our guide had heard about this place from a local guy who lives alone in the mountains. This time we didn’t go in for a swim, but we walked in the water up to our knees. The water is very refreshing, since it comes from the mountains.
All -in-all , a very successful and enjoyable trip. I highly recommend this to all !
