I’m sorry it’s been a few days since my last post. I went to visit some friends in Puerto Viejo this week on the Caribbean side of the country. On the way I came across — not one — but two different tractor trailers on the side of the road that had flipped over. One of them kept me in a line of cars on the highway for over an hour wondering what we were doing there and if I should turn back or not.
I also had a major poop attack on the way down and needed to find a bathroom in a hurry. The only one I could find didn’t have toilet paper or a sink to wash my hands. I had to beg someone to get me some paper. Then the toilet didn’t have a seat and I struggled for 15 minutes to hover above the toilet. My poor legs were a wreck after that!
Then when I got to Puerto Viejo and got in the water to boogie board, I sprained or broke something in my foot. It sure limited what I could do while I was down there. And it kept me there for an extra day as I couldn’t push in the clutch.
When I finally tried to leave, I didn’t get more than 20 minutes before my truck broke down and I was stranded in the intense heat on the highway for an hour-and-a-half. Because the parts had to come from Limon, I ended up staying another extra day.
The point of the story is that I find it easier to look at living in Costa Rica as an adventure. I never know what in the world is going to happen when I walk out the door. I rarely get upset now. I’m finally learning to let go of some of my North American drive for perfection and settle for living the experience of whatever life delivers. It’s easier on my indigestion and I find it can actually be pretty fun!
