hands restrained

You may have noticed that there has been a bit of radio silence from us lately. No, we haven’t disappeared or taken the summer off. We are making a HUGE CHANGE!

After a couple of years of careful consideration, we have decided to focus our efforts on a new project. We are in the process of opening a Safe House for child victims of commercial sexual exploitation and Human Trafficking. Basically, building a home for kids who had been sold into prostitution by their parents or others.

At present, there is no home for these victims in Costa Rica. Yet there are many victims who really need our help. We hope you’ll join us in our efforts to make this dream a reality.

Our process truly begins on the 7th of July when Scott and our staff psychologist, Lorna, meet with Child Protective Services (PANI) in San Jose for our initial licensing meeting.

You can read more about our Vision on our Casa Milagro Foundation draft website. In short, we are building a group of people to co-create an Intentional and Collaborative Community. We envision a place with sustainable organic farming to grow our own food and to give the children some outdoor therapy, an artist in residence program to help our art & music therapy program, as well as yoga, meditation, and our own school.

What does this mean for Tropical Adventures and our several volunteer projects? For the time being, we will not be placing volunteers in any other project besides the Safe House. This may change in the future.

If you are interested in learning more, volunteering and / or donating, please contact us for more information. You might also want to join our Facebook group to join us in our co-creating process!
