Costa Rica Calling?
October 9, 2006Ready to make the jump to Costa Rica? The country’s a lot more than a pretty face — it’s one of the most economically and politically stable nations in the region. Costa Rica abolished its army in 1948 and outlawed capital punishment half a century earlier. It has near-universal health care and has set aside more than 25% of its land in parks and reserves.

October 8, 2006I ran into a cool website today. It’s called Couchsurfing.com. I can say that I’ve had great experiences with “strangers” coming to stay at my house for a few days. And I’ve had the fortune of other folks letting me crash on their couch for a while in other parts of the world.

October 6, 2006I’ve been getting requests for Dr Kim’s number. I wish I could find his website, but I can’t. Anyhow, his telephone is 231-6361. Mario is his brother-in-law. He manages the office. If you call and you don’t get a call back in a day or two, call again. They are super busy. (Saratica, I couldn’t find your email address and you only gave me your profile page — which was empty.)

October 6, 2006Okay. We finally have some names for the new puppies! The “little brown guy” is now known as Tiesto and the “little black piggy” is now Anika. I really did like the suggestion someone made to name them Snickers and Twix. But Isaac didn’t like that idea. Oh well. Tiesto and Anika will be fine. No matter what we call them — they are still adorable!

October 4, 2006I went to see an acupuncturist yesterday, Dr. Kim Ok Gwan. I had been hearing about him for a couple of years. Many people I know have gone to him and had remarkable results. He seems to be most famous for being able to isolate certain allergies and then balance the body through acupuncture and diet change. I have heard from several people who were “cured” in just one appointment.

October 4, 2006My sweet friends, Irene and Giovani, went to the beach this past weekend. They knew I was at home sick, so they made this sign for me in the sand, photographed it and emailed it to me. That was so nice of them! Here you can see another picture of them hanging out on the sand. They are former French classmates of Isaac who we hang out with on occassion.

October 1, 2006A couple of months after the robbers killed our other dogs, we finally got up the strength to get some more. These still-yet-to-be-named creatures are doberman pinchers. They are adorable! But they sure are trouble. Peep and poop everywhere! Not to mention they are already chewing apart the house. But thankfully, I think we’ll be able to manage. They are just TOO CUTE!

September 30, 2006What a long few weeks! As you know by now, I just got out of the hospital. I ended up being in there for 5 days. In the end, they think I had 2 different infections. One viral, like meningitis, and the other bacterial in my respiratory system, like streptococcus.

September 26, 2006Isn’t this card cute? You probably can’t read the words. It says, “From what the doctor said, you’ll be back under my feet in no time!”
Also cute is the new name I’ve been given. “DeyBi Pedrinsk” is the name on my records here at the hospital in Costa Rica. I’ve actually been in here for 4 days now. Tomorrow will be day 5 and I hope to go home. I stopped by on Saturday because I’d been having awful headaches, nausea and sensitivity to light for way too long. Over 15 days. I know, stupid. I don’t always take care of myself like I should.
