The study was released recently by the British think-tank New Economics Foundation (NEF). The tiny South Pacific Ocean archipelago of Vanuatu came out on top as the happiest country on Earth, with Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominica and Panama completing the top five…

Random Thoughts
July 14, 2006My friend, Steven, brought up an interesting point to me the other day. He was talking about a long-term friend of his who is a genius in the thought sciences (Latin American Thought, Philosophy, etc.). Just super intelligent. And he mentioned to me how fascinating it was that this guy has such unbelievably bright thoughts coming from a generation where education wasn’t that advanced here in Costa Rica.

July 12, 2006I guess I need to apologize for not posting more often. I was doing really well for a while, posting just about every day. But I have been so incredibly busy with this new volunteer program we are running. I’ve been shocked at the response. July 7, 2006Even though I live in Costa Rica, it’s still very easy to “shield” myself from part of life. It’s easy to get caught up in my day-to-day life and to not interact with many people. So when I do things like take a long trip by bus, I really open myself up to some marvelous experiences. Yes, sometimes the experiences are waiting, getting lost, and other such inconveniences. But no matter what happens, I always learn more about other people and myself.

July 7, 2006For more than two years now I’ve been being asked in the morning, “Como amaneció?” But for more than two years I’ve been hearing “Como nació?” At times, I’ve thought they were asking me, “Como le nació?” When learning Spanish (or any other language for that matter), one has to really refine their listening skills. However it’s interesting how the mind fills in the blanks automatically!

July 1, 2006I guess I’m getting old. My idea of “fun” isn’t what it used to be. I went out last night to a club in San Jose called “Club Oh!” for a Madonna tribute party. There were hundreds more people inside than what I consider to be safe…
