But I have been so incredibly busy with this new volunteer program we are running. I’ve been shocked at the response. For almost a year I was spending lots of time, energy and money into trying to book people for retreats and workshops. It was becoming clear it was not a “hot market.” Pretty much bummed me out. July 7, 2006Even though I live in Costa Rica, it’s still very easy to “shield” myself from part of life. It’s easy to get caught up in my day-to-day life and to not interact with many people. But no matter what happens, I always learn more about other people and myself.

Read MoreThe lowdown on safety of tourists and residents
June 17, 2006Many people planning a vacation in Costa Rica, or thinking about living here are worried about safety. Some of them write to me about their concerns. Perhaps it is time for a column discussing how safe is Costa Rica.

June 15, 2006The legal system in the United States is hard enough (okay, impossible) for me to understand. But then try to figure this all out in Costa Rica! More than overwhelming.
Read MoreHow to Help
June 11, 2006At least once a week I get emails from people coming to Costa Rica wondering how it is they can help. They are often willing to bring down things to donate. So I thought I’d create a post with a bit more information in the event you — or someone you know — is coming to visit soon. Perhaps you’d consider packing a couple of extra things for those in need?

June 8, 2006Dear Editor:
I wanted to comment about your article this past week about “Tips on Shipping Items into Costa Rica.” I can really appreciate the reason for the article, as getting goods shipped here to Costa Rica can be challenging — at best. But as optimistic as the article presents the subject, I find the reality of receiving packages here in Costa Rica to be much different….
