Newcomers Club is a wonderful club of ladies of Costa Rica that welcomes new ladies to Costa Rica through social events and general meetings once a month with informative topics.
Newcomers is an organization that began in history as the Welcome Wagon in the United States. In the 80’s in Costa Rica, Newcomers followed the tradition of the Welcome Wagon and began welcoming women to this country. The board members of the Newcomers organize hospitality teas to meet each new lady individually and then the monthly general meetings with topics like, “How to buy and cook meat in Costa Rica”, flower arranging, medical care with the different programs private and public and many topics that would assist the “Newcomers” with information on Costa Rica.
Upcoming events are: November,“Art for Dummies” and December, our own Christmas Party plus a Holiday Party for over 200 orphans and January, Cake Decorating just to name a few. Every Tuesday an “Out to Lunch” bunch meets introducing different restaurants and a few times a year social parties, like our past Wine and Cheese and upcoming Gourmet Picnic Jazz Concert in the Park where we have an opportunity to meet the husbands and significant others of the Newcomer ladies.
In addition to the general monthly meetings and special events; there are free interest groups, such as cooking, tropical gardening, cultural tours, pottery, horse-back riding, Spanish, Out to Dinner, Out to Lunch, games & laughter and more. We kick-off the beginning of each Newcomer Year with an Interest Fair in September, where we have an opportunity to meet the teachers or coordinators of the free and fee interest groups.
Dues for anyone interested in joining Newcomers is 5000 colones for the year. For more information contact Co-President, Carol Wunderlee at 232-3999 or e-mail at carol@pianopathway.com or see the Newcomers International Web Site at www.newcomersclub.com
