One of our partners in Sea Turtle Conservation Projects is looking for new research assistants for 2013!

You will be working in the sea turtle conservation projects for 10 to 12 weeks.  

The Research Assistants are an important connection between the organization and the future short-term volunteers!

 

Work includes:

 

  • Conducting 3-4 hour night patrols
  • Identifying, measuring and tagging all adult turtles
  • Relocation of nests into hatcheries or safe places on the beach
  • Daily early morning walks to count turtle tracks and check status of in situ nests
  • Monitor hatcheries around the clock
  • Release hatchlings
  • Conduct post hatching nest excavations.

 

Requirements:

 

  • 20 Years or older and in good physical condition
  • Fluent in English and Advanced in Spanish
  • Educational background in biology or related career
  • Previous experience in working with sea turtles is preferable
  • Commitment to work up to three months
  • Interested in sharing your knowledge and to stimulate the volunteers’ interest in the protection and the    conservation of    
  • sea turtles
  • Responsible, hardworking, communicative and enthusiastic person. Capable to live in very rustic and basic living conditions (Dormitories and shared outside bathrooms) and under adverse climatic conditions (Very hot with 100% of humidity, frequent and very heavy rain sometimes)

 

 

  • Depending on your previous experience and skills you would pay 0-10$ a night.
