We have so many exciting projects and programs going on and we’re always looking for extra help from people who live in Costa Rica full-time (Ticos or Extranjeros) who are willing and able to give of their time or resources. We normally do not charge any fees to residents of Costa Rica, but we ask that you cover your own expenses (i.e., travel to project locations, lodging, food, etc.). We are often to get incredible discounts for you, so it does not have to be expensive for you to participate with us.

Here is a short list of our ongoing needs:

  • Translators willing to spend time at our project sites with our volunteers who don’t speak Spanish
  • Brave and healthy people to accompany us into the deep parts of the indigenous reservations to distribute supplies and donations
  • People to help us collect and distribute donations (either from people flying in with suitcases of donations, or from residents who want to donate things)
  • People willing to do some chaperoning when we have groups of younger teens (16 – 18-years-old) either in the Puerto Viejo area (especially at night) and when we take weekend trips
  • Volunteers willing to help us teach English one or two day a week (Puerto Viejo in Limon and in La Flor in Cartago)
  • Graphic Designers needed for marketing materials
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO) expertise needed
  • Marketing and Advertising help
  • Grant Writers
  • Fundraisers
  • Help finding sources for free advertising / marketing

In addition, we could use help in the following areas. Most of this can be done from the comfort of yourLauryn_phyllis_sml
own home. Our kids and some families need pretty much anything you can get your hands on. Some of them literally have nothing. They need:

  • Used or new DVDs with good movies, especially for kids. No war,
violence, foul language. Generally rated G or PG, and best if there is
a Spanish language soundtrack option of course.
  • Used/new books in both English and Spanish, especially children’s books
  • Rain Ponchos
  • Umbrellas – small, collapsible, of a size that can fit into a school-kid’s knapsack
  • Knapsacks (different colors please so the kids don’t all have the same ones)
  • Blankets – singe/double, no electric ones
  • Sheets – twin and full
  • Coloring books and crayons, markers, watercolors
  • Pencils & pens
  • Notebooks
  • Children’s underwear
  • Children’s bathing suits
  • Children’s pants, shirts, socks, shoes, sweaters, light jackets, baseball caps
  • Flashlights and batteries – with parts that can be easily purchased
(“normal" bulbs, standard "D" cell batteries). Even better are
battery-less flashlights you can shake or crank.
  • Toys (nothing electric or battery-operated)
  • Dolls
  • Paper – plain white, lined and construction
  • Towels
  • Baby formula
  • Toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss
  • Soap / Shampoo
  • Multivitamins

Miscellaneous Needs for families and our locations:

  • Plastic buckets
  • Thick, heavy shower curtains, single color (used to waterproof thatch roofs)
  • Spanish to English dictionaries
  • Computer / Printer / Scanner
  • Printed shirts and caps that can be sold by the indigenous guides
  • Candles
  • Matches, lighters
  • Pots & pans
  • Canned foods (especially tuna fish and veggies)
  • Refrigerators
  • Freezers
  • Space in your luggage if you are going to other parts of the world when we have people in those locations looking to get their donations to us

And, of course, if you are able to put up any posters, hand out
brochures or do a presentation on our behalf, please let us know and we
will send you whatever we can to help out.

Please feel free to email us or call us at 574-4412 with any questions or any ideas you may have. We’d love to hear from you!

Many thanks in advance for your generosity and kindness.
