This year the World Cup begins on the 9th of June in Germany. Costa Rica’s team, La Sele (the selction), got the short end of the stick when the lottery results said that La Sele was going to be the very first team to play. But it gets worse. They are going to play Germany! Needless to say, people around here are pretty nervous about that, as Germany’s team is amazing.

I don’t know why I was surprised to hear yesterday that the government has issued the decision to let public employees have the morning off of June 9th so everyone can watch the first game. Afterall, I don’t know many countries who have a presidential cabinet member (here they call them ministers) for sports!

What if Costa Rica had a team participating in an international chess tournament? Would anyone even know about it?
