Last Thursday was the monthly recycling day in Hojancha. In Western countries, recycling cans, bottles and cardboard has become popular in the last several years. However, in Costa Rica, things work very differently. Starting early in the morning, locals gather in the park that is located in the very center of the town. Everyone brings a number of bags with empty cans, plastic bottles and cardboards, which are later sorted out and recycled. It’s has become a sort of a tradition in which most of the town people take part in. It is a great way for the people to meet up and socialize while taking care of the environment.

Furthermore, the aim of Costa Rican government is to make the country become CO2-neutral by 2020. Generally the people in Costa Rica are rather responsible when it comes to the environment, and there is a boom of eco-friendly tourism. The recycling event that takes place in Hojancha every first Thursday of each month, is a clear proof, that the Costa Rica is on the way of becoming one of the countries in the world.

Lastly,  one of Tropical Adventures goals is to build large garbage containers so that people would have the opportunity to recycle cans, bottles and cardboards not only once a week but every day of the week.
